Hong Kong Migration Rate Falls

December 2013, 20
EMAIL  Print A+

Hong Kong is seeing a decrease in migrants for many years and this is a worry to the economy of the country for which migrants, especially Skilled Workers and Investors contribute greatly. There are many factors which could contribute to the drop in migrants into Hong Kong and the most predominant one may be the new rules to Immigration Processes in other migration destinations such as the UK.

The UK has removed all restrictions for citizens of the EU since 2004 which saw a mass influx of Polish people especially enter the UK, the same is set to happen next year, a decade later in 2014 for people native to the countries of Romania and Bulgaria. With unrestricted access to a hugely popular country for migration such as the United Kingdom and also with the convenience of being in close proximity with similar cultures and use of languages the transition is an elementary one. In contrast, Hong Kong has a culture entirely of it’s own, although Hong Kong very much welcomes migrants and protected them against exploitation under Immigration Law, the country is one which has adhered to similar ways of life for centuries. Now inner cities of Hong Kong are extremely vibrant, buzzing, hi tech and modern places to work and study to live there is not often a pleasing experience. The apartments are expensive and small, as opposed to other countries who boast large family homes for the price of a one bedroom apartment in inner city Hong Kong and the smog and pollution of the densely populated country is a trial to become accustomed to. There are many down sides to migration into Hong Kong and when looking at the recent statistics it is clear something has to change in order to return the migration rate back up to the figures previously seen.

The application process for visa’s into Hong Kong is not a difficult one, and recently you have been given the option to apply online in the form of mobile apps which is a wonderfully easy and extremely high tech method and confirms the up and coming ways of the country. The recent study revealed that the most popular visa option in todays climate is that of a business visitor, this visa is for those who do not wish to reside here for a long period of time and are here strictly to perform, oversee or investigate first hand a recognised business in Hong Kong.
