Hundreds of protection visa holders in Geelong will be going through an emotional toll which will be cruel as the federal government has announced that family reunion applications will be processed at very low priority.

Many people have spent years just hoping that they will be united with their families and these people who have arrived by boats to Australia will have to wait for another several years to bring their family to join them in Australia.

Advocates are saying that Australia's ideals are being brought to shame and these shifts are really very devastating.

Several people have spent thousands of dollars and have also done DNA testing and processing documents. Many community sponsors have also spent a lot of money.

Antoinette Siketa who is a migration agent and does not charge any fees says that many protection visa holders are on the verge of breaking down due to these rules.

Ms Siketa stated that she could not believe this was happening in this century.

She couldn't believe that this is Australia.

Scott Morrison, The Immigration and Border Protection minister of Australia has issued instructions for changes that are being made to the illegal arrivals in Australia.

The intention of this document is to make sure that people who are living in Australia legally should unite with heir families faster than people who have arrived in Australia by boats illegally.

The people who have arrived into Australia by boats and have completed all formalities and have applied for family reunion visas will be kept on hold till all the other non-IMA applications that have been sponsored are not responded to.

The applications will be delayed by several years because of this.

Jodie Hardman who is the case management team leader for diversity said that agents have not been able to discuss any possibilities with customers.

Immigration officials have issues client numbers which are being processed.

A meeting to discuss the implication of these changes conducted by the Geelong protection will be attended by immigration officials said Miss Hardman.

Tough jobs would have to be faced by people who are working on the frontline.

She said that when they told people of the outcome they had to face them.

People are grieving for their families and are worried about their state and how they are doing.

Many of the families are living in Pakistan where there are bomb blasts every day.

Advocate Mark Bennett of Geelong asylum seeker and St. Marys business manager stated that this process was never going to be reversed back and it was almost impossible to do so.

He said he was out of words to describe how cruel some people are.

He said what did asylum mean if you took away the real meaning from it, there is nothing you are left with than.

He said he was very disappointed with the country he lived in.
