Good News for Immigrants: Quebec Immigration Revises Areas of Training

The Province of Quebec has made revisions to the Areas of Training list. This measure signifies an emphasis on high and special professional training, while selecting skilled worker immigrants.

This list is a vital factor in the Q.S.W.P. point-grid. It gives totally 12 points to a candidate, depending on the secondary-level, university/college, or vocational degree, pursued through an educational institution of Quebec, or of an overseas country.

Revised Section A of this List

Furthermore, the number of degrees issued in overseas countries, which give 12 points to an applicant, remains at seven. There is a focus in the revised list, denoting that Quebec has a plan, to build a huge, as well as highly diverse pool, of skilled workers among immigrants, by using the new EOI system. Furthermore, in the previous list, there were high points to the degrees/qualifications connected to Genetics, Engineering, Computer Science, Nuclear Medicine, Pharmaceutical Production, and other similar jobs. 

Moreover, the occupations, in the revised list have courses connected to these occupations:

• Restaurant Management, Chefs, Food Service Supervisors and Managers
• Heavy duty equipment mechanics in the field of agriculture.
• Actuarial sciences
• Information Management
• Early Childhood Educators

Revised Section B of the Training List

Section B, where nine points can be scored in the point-grid, has a wide range of degrees and jobs compared to Section A.

There is an expansion in the range of eligible courses. These include:

• University degrees in Preschool Teacher Training,
• University degrees in Mineralogy/ Geology ;
• DCS/ACS in Special Care Counseling;
• DVS in Boiler making, Die making.

Other details

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Computer Science, which carried a maximum of 12 points, is now in Section B, and presently carries 9 points only.

A list of eligible vocational degrees in Section B provides persons, without a college degree, the opportunity to join, the selected pool of candidates, who are eligible in draws, under the new E.O.I. system.

After seeing the changes to Section C, the overall effect of this revision, shows that the new E.O.I. system has come as a positive change, for the province in hiring overseas workers.  It also represents a set of fresh opportunities, to the immigrants, who seek a permanent pathway, to Canada in the Quebec E.O.I. system.
