Global Students Decided to Study in Canada in spite of Coronavirus

Most ambitious global students in the latest survey say the COVID-19 pandemic is not preventing them from seeking their post-secondary education overseas. That being told, many would still favor the face-to-face study experience beyond online learning, as per the survey managed by global education experts at IDP Connect, the IDP Education B2B division.

Some 69% of the 6,900 global student applicants surveyed plan to start their studies as planned. Only 5% said they would no longer proceed to study. Most of the members were from China, India, and Bangladesh, among other Asian nations. The destination nations of these students were Canada, Australia, United States, United Kingdom, and New Zealand.

The majority of individuals said they would favor delaying their study plans till face-to-face classes were open, principally because the online opportunity lacks the global exposure most were expecting to gain.

The CEO of IDP Connect saw that just over 50 percent of participants, 54% would be willing to delay their studies up to 12 months or less prior to pursuing other opportunities.

University Activity as Provinces Relax Coronavirus Limitations

As provinces of Canada start pulling back measures for coronavirus, some universities are also beginning their facilities.

The Université du Québec à Montréal is welcoming researchers. They did not designate which ones specifically, just that their work demands to need them to physically exist on campus, and working from home is yet favored.

The Prince Edward Island University will permit researchers, faculty, and graduate students to research on campus as of 25 May 2020. They are also permitting some essential staff and the management team to reach on campus while promoting social distancing and also working from home when feasible. The second phase is estimated to start 15 June, upon evaluation of the initial phase, where they may increase the number of individuals permitted on campus. The third phase, another expansion, is programmed to start 1 August 2020, where they will ready for the fall academic semester.

Canadians are Supporting Global Students

Canada is supporting global students in many ways such as boosting the number of working hours permitted from 20 to 40 for specific professions, and starting up the Canada Emergency Response Benefit to them, which grants recipients $2,000 per month. Quebec province will automatically extend Quebec's Acceptance Certificates of global students if they are estimated to expire prior to December 31, 2020.
