A recent study announced today reveals that Germany must start taking in many times more non-EU immigrants to fulfill the labor requirement. Due to an aging population, labor deficit in Germany has been growing, and the study concludes that the nation will require 260,000 workers per each year to fill the gap, 146,000 workers from non-EU nations.

Research Report About Germany Labor Shortage

The Bertelsmann Foundation published the research and managed by the University of Coburg and Institute for Employment Research. Among different, the study expects that by 2060, the population of Germany will shorten by a third, excluding immigration. As such, it could have a destructive impact on the German economy, which currently is the fourth biggest in the world.

In the study, parameters such as a higher birthrate, increased women joining in the workforce, and a rise in the retirement age was taken into account and considers all scenarios which are possible.

But even if women and men worked the equal way and a pension of 70 could be launched in Germany, it would not be feasible to cover the need for skilled labor with internal funds, says the Bertelsmann Foundation.

Upon the study publication, Jörg Dräger, Bertelsmann Foundation executive director told that in the year 2017, only 38,000 workers stayed in Germany in the year 2017. He also announced that Germany must hurry up and pass the modern law that would make it simpler for professionals from non-EU nations to get a job and migrate to Germany.

Migration and combination are jobs for the community as a total, and the latest law simply is not sufficient, Dräger told.

Broken down, the medium need for migrants as per the study is as follows:

·         By 2035 – around 98,000 immigrants required from non-EU nations for each year.

·         Within 2036 and 2050, approximately 170,000 immigrants required per year.

·         Within 2051 and 2060, around 200,000 immigrants required per year.

In Aug 2018, the German Labor Office asked the government to keep funding for the language courses for asylum seekers so that they might be trained and enter into the workforce. The Office stated at that time there were approximately 1.2 million unfilled jobs in Germany.
