Canada will be sending its first astronaut to the moon under a desiring long-term plan which was being developed by a group of space agencies around the world.

The astronaut will have to return to the moon within the next two decades. This is a part of the recently updated Global Exploration Roadmap.

Canada is among the 14 space agency which is participating in the International Space Exploration Coordination Group. This first started developing the strategy in 2007. The first roadmap was released in the year 2011. The latest update was made public last week.

The plan will provide a unique space station in orbit around the moon. This will be used as a point to present the ferry astronauts back and forth.

It is a part of a roadmap that positions the human and robotic missions in the solar system for the next 25 years, along with the other components including the moon settlement and the proposal by NASA to capture a near-Earth asteroid.

The director of space-exploration development in the Canadian Space Agency, Jean-Claude Piedboeuf, stated that there is an alliance among the space agencies that will be returning to the moon is a stepping stone to a more remote target: Mars.

There will be a human mission in the lunar vicinity and on the surface until 2030. At this point sights will be set on the red planet.

Piedboeuf stated “You will need to master how to land on the planet and the moon. This can be kind of a test bed for that and how can someone live on the surface for a long time.”

The CSA official has suggested astronauts will also be moon bound in about 15 years. It will be the first human visit to the shining orbit since the year 1972. The NASA astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmidt had spent 75 hours there.

This time, there will be Canadian visitors.

Piedboeuf further stated “We are proposing a vision where Canada will have an astronaut, essentially a Canadian who will be going to the lunar space; either on the moon or in orbit and can operates a Canadian rover in the similar way the Canadians operate a Canadarm on the space station.”

“We can foresee the future by doing the similar type of thing on the moon, along with the Canadian industry building a rover. Canadian astronaut can operator of this rover.”

The first halt on the pathway to Mars and the International Space Station will continue to perform until at least 2020.

Canada is working on one of its two active astronauts, Jeremy Hansen or David Saint-Jacques, to visit the space station between 2016 and 2019.

Piedboeuf addressed The Canadian Press stating, “For the coming 10 years, we can expect that human space flight will be in an Earth orbit.”

“The starting will be in 2025. This is just a guess because there is a lot of work. Once that is completed then we can start thinking about human orbit around the moon. The plan is to essentially do some activity there, then starting back on the surface of the moon.”

The plan will see a small human settlement established on the moon. Astronauts can use it to mine lunar resources along with learning how to survive away from Earth.

Piedboeuf also pointed out that Canada has been successfully working along with NASA and various other space agencies, to develop the coming generation of rovers, which will go to the moon and Mars.

“In terms of human research, we are building the building blocks and the capability that we need to support human research,” he said.

Thousands of individuals of all the ages groups from around the world, including many of the Canadians, have applied by posting various videos online explaining why they aspire to make what has been described as a suicide mission.

The plan also includes creating a reality TV show.
