In 2012 the amount of approved family reunification applications was around three thousand, the new figures that are based on the amount of approved reunification applications in 2013 was over four thousand seven hundred. Another reason the number has risen so dramatically could also be down to the processing time, this is now much quicker as it is much simpler to process.
Many people are very pleased about the rise in numbers and that families have been reunited in Denmark, children should not suffer in any country and Denmark as well as the immigration service of Denmark also believe this. This is why the laws were relaxed in this case. With more people given the opportunity to stay in Denmark with their families instead of moving to other countries such as Sweden and Germany. The rise in applicants could also be down to the fact that many citizens knew this change was coming and so held of from applying until the change had come into effect, this could be why there is now an influx in family reunification applications. Either way the government, associations and organisations are thrilled that families are not losing out. If the reason for the high number is due to applicants waiting then the number will soon come down and stay at a steady level, as long as people who enter Denmark legally and become “active citizens of Denmark” the government in particular welcome the families, and help them to adjust to Danish life. The happiest country in the world.
