Explanation of Express Entry tie-break Procedure

November 2017, 17

Explanation-of-Express-Entry

In the two recent draws in the Express Entry pool, IRCC made use of the tie-break procedure which was introduced in June 2017. The new procedure follows a ranking system where the candidates scoring the same Rank, are prioritized based on the date and time when their profiles were originally submitted into the Express Entry pool.

The candidates who have their profiles for a long duration get preference.

In the November 15 draw, IRCC had issued 2,750 Invitations to Apply, for obtaining Canada PR to Express Entry pool candidates who had the minimum score of 439. Because of the tie-break system those candidates scoring 439 points, who had submitted their profiles to IRCC on or before October 19, 2017, at 12:02:28, were invited to apply.

The CRS score of a candidate continues to be the main factor to determine the ranking for the draw. This procedure was designed originally to help the government in managing the invitation rounds in a better way.

The following table depicts the way of working, of the time stamp in the Nov. 15th draw. The information is merely illustrative and is not based on genuine statistics.

The candidates who figure in the pool need to note that modifying/ updating their profile in Express Entry in no way revises the time stamp, of the submission done originally. The illustration is that when a candidate submits a profile on Nov 1, 2017, at 06:40:23 and then later updates the profile with new language results, the time mentioned on the profile will remain as the original (06:40:23 on Nov 1, 2017).

When a candidate deletes the profile and then resubmits a completely new profile to the Express Entry pool, the time stamp on the new profile stands altered. It will be the date and time of rejoining the pool. The date /time of the original profile is not carried over.
