Vietnamese asylum seekers who arrive by boat to Australia do not go through a enhanced screening was told by the Immigration department to the Commonwealth Ombudsman which has made the advocates of refugees disbelief the fact.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison had made a public statement on 21st November stating that this process was being used which is exactly contradictory to this report which has been obtained by The Global Mail.

A single interview is conducted by Immigration officers without any solicitor present there and this is what is termed as 'enhanced screening'. Through this enhanced screening it is concluded that the asylum seeker should be denied and deported or can claim refugee status is Australia.

This system was introduced by the previous Labor government, and was initially used on Sri Lankan asylum seekers, but now it is also being applied to Vietnamese asylum seekers.

Dr Anh Nguyen, who is the president of the Western Australian chapter in Australia for the community of Vietnam has written a letter to the Commonwealth Ombudsman on September 16 questioning them about how concerned he is about the treatment that his compatriots are receiving through this screening process. He said that when he came in contact with many people they felt intimidated through this enhanced screening interviews as anyways it was the first time they were landing on Australian soil and were anyways veer confused and lost.

Dr Anh Nguyen has also implored the Ombudsman report and said that screening process being used for Vietnamese asylum seekers should give permission to the people of Vietnam coming by boat to be able to put in their asylum claims and also should be given proper information about what their asylum status in Australia is.

Dr Anh Nguyen has received a report on November 26 in which a Immigration Team strategy Ombudsman officer has said on November 21 that they are not going to investigate this matter. The letter has been sent to the Immigration detention review team and will be taking any further steps in relation to the enhanced screening process.
