The good news for Indian nationals thinking of applying to work in Denmark is that It is now very much possible to be granted a three-year Denmark residence permit for the purpose of seeking work and afterward permanent settlement in Denmark.  In normal circumstances this permit can be successfully obtained within 30 to 60 days of initial application.

Denmark Green Card Visa

There are three main points to consider before applying for a Danish Green Card:

  • The main criterion to be met is the scoring of points on a number of pre-set tests set by the Danish government.  In order to be granted a Denmark Immigration or Denmark Residence permit under the Danish Green Card Scheme for Indians, you must attain at least 100 points. Points will be awarded under the following headings: educational level, language skills, work experience, adaptability and age
  • You must have full health insurance covering yourself and any family members going with you till the time you are covered by the Danish national health insurance
  • You must have sufficient finances to support yourself at least for the period of your first year in Denmark

Denmark is very keen to attract well-qualified and eligible workers from India and, to give that little bit of extra encouragement, the Danish government established a “Work-in-Denmark” centre in New Delhi a few years ago.  The Danish embassy statement released at the time said that as many as 32,000 professionals from South Asia were needed to bridge the gap in the IT, engineering and health care sectors.

It is not a requirement that you speak Danish although knowledge of this language will clearly help you as time goes by.  You must, however, be able to demonstrate proficiency in English, both written and spoken.  You will gain more points the younger you are and Denmark particularly encourages applicants under the age of 40.

A question often asked by applicants concerns that of taking family members with them and will this be permitted.  The answer is that your spouse or partner is also eligible for a residence permit, as well as any children under the age of 18 who are living at home with you. Your spouse or partner is allowed to work full time for the entire period of the residence permit's validity so good news all round really!

Relevant work experience and adaptability will, however, be the key elements that get you that green card.  If you have already worked somewhere in the European union of countries you score heavily on the points board.  Finally, Denmark has a list of occupations (The Positive List) including lawyers, doctors, IT professionals and teachers and if your profession appears on that list your application has a great chance of success.
