Demand for Skilled Workers Soars High

Australia: There is a great and surprising range of careers that can be done after receiving vocational education. The theme given to National Skills Week 17 is “Exceeding the frontiers of knowledge”

Being held between August 28th and September 3rd, this yearly event has the aim to show the diversity of vocational education and the great employment results from it.

Chief executive Organiser of Skills One, B. Wexham said that the scope of vocational education was much broad than the traditional trades with which many people associate it with.

He also said that the main objective in holding the Skills Week is to make the parents, the public, the students and industry folks understand the opportunities for the children to involve.  It reflects the job growth because the nation has been built on skills developed in the sphere of vocations. It comes with the important economic benefit of increasing productivity. The present theme encourages the people to aim for exploration and find the good things of vocational education.

He also alluded to the potential of employment demand that was possible in hospitality and tourism taking care of the aged and also in child-care which are initiated through vocational education.

In the years from 2015 to 2020, the Department of Employment Government of Australia projects a requirement of additional 19,000 waiters, 11,700 bar attendants/ baristas, 43,000 care givers for aged and those suffering from disability and 39,000 child care professionals. The hospitality and tourism sector now is witness to a great boom and all the states are growing rapidly.

As far as caring for the aged persons is concerns there is a national demand and the persons retiring prefer Queensland owing to the pleasant weather and other reasons. There is a pressure to get more people involved in this field.

He went to add that the new infrastructure in a few cities had an increased demand in trades that were considered traditional.

Additional 26,100 electricians, 12,000 carpenters/joiners, and 7800 plumbers can expect to get hired in the next five years.

Moreover, there was a huge demand for professional with digital skill.

There was a great impact of Technology in every sphere of business today, and hence it was important to involve more people with an interest in programming and coding he added. The field of agriculture was now witnessing drones to check dams, and the scare crows are being replaced.  

More than 18,000, software cum applications programmers would be required between 2015 and 2020. Skills Week programs have been organized throughout the country.
