Getting US Citizenship could not have been easier since CitizenWorks came into existence. CitizenshipWorks is an online platform that guides green card holders through the entire process along with a network of legal services available both in English and Spanish, online and in person.

Immigration Advocates Network with the support of Pro Bono Net, leaders of innovative technological solutions in the legal domain, New Americans Campaign and Knight Foundation and developed CitzienWorks.

Issues that permanent residents face include insufficient information about the procedure, application and legal service charges, and inconvenience for suburban and rural residents. CitizenshipWorks is a free tool that addresses all these issues through the following:

  • Choice of English or Spanish language with complete support
  • A glossary to help in understanding questions, defining legal terms and explaining important information
  • Test eligibility of the applicant to find out if there are any legal issues that can affect acquiring US citizenship
  • Online support if services in person are not accessible
  • A dependable network of non-profit services

"CitizenshipWorks represents a radical change in attendance for the naturalization application," says Matthew Burnett, who is Immigration Advocates Network’s director. "With only 10 percent of those eligible to naturalize applying each year, it is critical to take bold and innovative steps to reduce barriers to citizenship and ensure that those who are eligible have access to the democratic process."

"There's an app for almost everything, had to be an app for citizenship. We invest in technology that helps communities to be more informed and committed, and obtaining the rights and responsibilities of citizenship allows new Americans participate fully in their communities," stated Benjamin de la Pena, director of community and national strategy at Knight Foundation.
