In The aftermath of the super typhoon that hit the Philippines, leaving the country and citizens in a state of shock and turmoil and more than 600,000 people without a home, many countries have come to the aid of the Filipino people, Canada have now made an announcement about their current visa policy, which has changed due to this humanitarian crisis that has devastated so many people both in and outside the Philippines.

Citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC) have announced that they will be giving applications for visas from the Philippines priority processing of their visa applications, due to the devastation left by the super typhoon Haiyan. If you are living outside of Canada and can prove that you have been significantly and personally affected by typhoon Haiyan, you need to tell the Canadian visa office as soon as possible, the office is in Manila, or contact via email. If you wish to go to the visa office in Manila, they will see you. both the Manila Visa office and Cebu visa application centers are open and are working and functioning as normal.

If you are already in Canada on a visa and are from the Philippines and you want to extend your stay due to typhoon Haiyan the CIC has announced that these requests will be assessed in a “compassionate and flexible manor” if you wish to declare that your visa extension is a priority, you will need to contact the CIC and inform them, and your reasons. If your application was submitted online it is advisable that you provide as much important information in the email as you possibly can such as; your I.D number, your name, and your date of birth, all of which will be found on any correspondence you have had with the CIC in the past. Also if any of your family is requesting an extension to their visa or applying for a visa due to the super typhoon, all there information also needs to be submitted so they CIC are aware that the application needs to be processed as an urgent application. The CIC have a crisis phone number due to the typhoon so they can be contacted by telephone. The crisis line is only to be used if you calling about cases linked to the Philippines. The CIC urge you not to contact them via the telephone for general visa enquires.
