CIC Rebrands as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

The federal government department of Canada which was known as Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has been rebranded as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Using the latest name started quickly after the latest Canadian government started working in the month of November last year.

IRCC helps the immigrants arrival to Canada, it offers protection to refugees and provide programs in assisting the new visitors in settling down in Canada. IRCC’s authorization also expands to issuing citizenship, granting travel documents like passports to the citizen of Canada and also promoting multiculturism.

While the old name CIC would stay for a  period of time in old web pages and in the program guides, it has become largely apparent over the initial few months of term of present government, that the name  IRCC is largely used in the official communications and publications.

It should be noted that IRCC and CIC are not two different departments. IRCC is not a new department but is a successor to the one that has been existed for many years. However, the old name CIC would be used by few territorial and provincial governments.

The Canadian government had said that it would uphold an immigration policy for family class programs and the skilled immigrants. The government has also promised to raise the funds for IRCC to enhance its program processing time and delivery.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has given public consent to his Minister, who is overseeing the IRCC, John McCallum, to raise the utmost age for the dependents from 19 to 22, to permit additional citizens of Canada to bring their children to Canada. The Minister has also been asked to provide more points under the Express Entry System to offer additional prospects for the applicants who have siblings in Canada.
