Changes to UK benefits effecting migrants

December 2013, 19
EMAIL  Print A+

The United Kingdom's Immigration Authority and British Government and publicly announced changes to migrants who arrive in the UK from January the 1st - the announcement was made just two weeks prior to the changes which is fairly unique and with little prior warning amounting to anything other than hearsay this is going to come as a shock to migrants who may have had a different plan in place to what will now not be allowed.

The changes are to come into play at the same time the restrictions are removed for Romanians and Bulgarians entering the UK and are possibly a way for the UK’s hospitality and generous immigration systems to not be abused. From January 1st 2014 the access to the UK’s benefits system for migrants will be denied for a three month period. Any out of work benefits such as Income Support or Jobseekers Allowances will not be permitted for migrants new to the UK to apply for until they have been in the country a minimum of twelve weeks. This is hoped to stop migrants who want to come to the UK to take full advantage of the wide array of benefits which were available to them.

With mass migration on the up and the resources of the UK being drained something has to give and the whole benefit system in the UK saw radical changes last April and is set to see many more until the country is back on an even keel. The UK has and will always welcome migrants but due to the recent recession only those who can contribute to the economy will continue to be so readily welcomed. If you are not planning to come to the UK to work and pay your own way then things will not be as easy for you as they once were. The changes will not affect those who are entering the country on Skilled Visors with jobs to go to or for those on Investor Visas who are fully able to pay their own way whilst contributing to UK society through the running or establishing of business(s).

The changes will also not affect those hoping to claim asylum in the UK and those persons will still be fully protected by UK law if they can prove beyond doubt that their case is indeed a genuine one. The entire immigration into the UK is predicted to undergo many changes in the foreseeable future and visa’s are set to be more difficult to obtain for the small island which is already home to over 60 million people.
