Canada and India relationship
Throwing light on strong relationship between Canada and India, Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper said that both Canada and India need to work collaboratively to confiscate the barriers that cramp trade and investment relations between the two nations.

Canadian Government has striven to revive and reinforce the relationship between Canada and India. They have reached an agreement on social security, nuclear cooperation, and initiated free trade negotiations between Canada and India.

Citing Immigration amendments, Harper remarked that the changes were really working well and the approval rate of Canada permanent residency for Indians is over 85%. Now, the applicants need not wait for four/five/six years for their residency as the applicant's processing time is reduced to one year.

Canadian Government has granted more than 14,000 student visas to Indian nationals in last year. Majority of Indian students are studying in Canadian universities as the government has paved path for students to be eligible for permanent residency and to work, stressed Harper.

Focusing on Canada visitor visa changes, Harper added that Canadian Government has designed the CAN+ program in India, which works as a permanent point of their immigration system, which means that people who have visited the US or Canada in the recent years will be able to fast-track the process for a visitor visa. With 95% approval rate, the CAN+ program enables more Indians to visit Canada as tourists or to engage in business activities.

Realizing the fact that immigration enriches the country, Canadian Government is making certain amendments, which enables more immigrants to enter into the country.

Complimenting the contributions made by the Indo-Canadian Community in boosting Canadian economy, Harper said that wherever Indian immigrants reside, wherever they choose to set up a business or raise families, those places flourish. India is the major source of immigrants for Canada and the Canada's Indo-Canadian community is strong and continuously growing with over 1.2 million people.
