Global Talent Stream Pilot
Canadian Global Talent Stream Pilot has been a significant changer for high-growth startups in Canada and the government’s plan to make it permanent would be a good move, the Canadian Innovators Council says.

Launched in 2017 below the Temporary Foreign Worker Program of Canada, the Global Talent Stream mainly works to speed up the work visa applications for qualified foreign workers with skills needed by Canadian organizations in areas such as Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics (S.T.E.M) and Information Technology.

The program enables organizations to present a promoted Labour Market Impact Evaluation (L.M.I.A), which ignores the demand to show that they tried hiring in Canada first and facilitates the process of approval.

If the L.M.I.A determines there are no Canadian workers ready to do the work, and a work visa can be achieved in as short as ten business days, enabling companies quick way to critical, highly skilled labor.

Recent Announcement About Global Talent Stream

The plan to make the famous pilot permanent, which was declared in the 2019 federal budget, attended calls to do so from associations of the business including the Canadian Innovators Council, which represents higher than 100 of Canada’s active growing tech companies.

The council led to a prediction by the Communication and Information Technology Council (ICTC) of Canada’ that told there would be 216,000 job openings in the sector by 2021. Bringing skilled digital workers globally is the quick solution for industry leaders to expand their businesses and overcome opportunity costs created by talent deficiency, the forecast states.

Companies who use the stream need to develop a Plan of Labour Market Benefits that features how they will produce lasting benefits for the labor market of Canada and the vast economy of Canada, such as job production or knowledge transfer.

In its budget 2019, the Canadian government told the Global Talent Stream has produced commitments from employers of Canada to generate 40,000 latest jobs for permanent residents and Canadians, develop higher than 10,000 co-op placements and fund higher than $90 million in skills training and development.

The government promised $35.2 million over 05 years starting in 2019-2020 to help the Global Talent Stream, by $7.4 million per year continuing.
