Canadian Government Extends Open Work Permit Pilot until 31 July 2020

Canada Open Work Permit Pilot Program

Canadian Federal Government had given an update on in its open work permit pilot for sponsored common-law partners or spouses, in January 2019. Below this, it has prolonged the open work permit for individuals residing in Canada in the appealing process for Canada PR under the common-law partner or the spouse in Canada Class. As per the Refugees, Immigration and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the program open work permit pilot was priorly set to expire o 31 January 2019. Presently it is prolonged until 31 July 2020.

Benefits of Extended Open Work Permit Pilot

It was the 4th time that IRCC had prolonged the open work permit pilot program since it was launched in the year 2014. The prolonged permit enables qualified common-law partners and spouses who are residing in Canada to appeal for a Canada open work permit. It is also acceptable for the spouse being sponsored by citizens of Canada or permanent residents of Canada under the common-law partner or the spouse in Canada Class (S.C.L.P.C).

The open work permit of Canada is not limited to a particular employer or job excluding employment in healthcare and childcare that requires to get the necessary medical clearance. To be qualified, they need to have a valid status of the temporary resident such as Canada student visa, visitor visa, or work visa and they need to reside at the corresponding address where the sponsor resides.

Refugees, Immigration and Citizenship Canada, announced in a published update, Canada understands that when families are able to work while staying together, their results of integration are developed. Prolonging this pilot assures applicants can work, support for their families, and add to the economy of Canada while waiting for their Canada PR requests to be processed.
