Canada

Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration (CIC) department had officially released some communiqués in the last few days (20th February, 2014) about the new bill titled Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act’, i.e. the bill C-24’. According to these communiqués, the government intended to reward and honour those from the armed forces and other such personnel, whether citizens or permanent residents, who were staying in Canada or abroad with some privileges. Thus, as a follow-up to these changes made possible by the bill, the children of these who are serving abroad as ‘servants of the crown’, would become citizens too, if their parents are already citizens. And as for permanent residents serving the armed forces, according to the changes made possible by the new bill ‘bill C-24’ they would have quicker access to Canadian citizenship.

Also, in an earlier communiqué, pertaining to the same bill, bill ‘C-24‘, it was stated by the Canadian authorities, that those with criminal records would have their citizenship applications thwarted as a consequence of their criminal record or activities.

But and now, one more communiqué, dated 21st February, 2014, has been released which states that a small number of ‘Lost Canadians’ which term means ‘first generation children who are born to ‘service men and war brides’ are now eligible for Canadian citizenship. Thus, with all of these changes brought about by this new act, the ‘bill C-24’, which are intended to be the government’s reforms to the Citizenship Act, the government intends to and hopes to enhance the value of Canadian citizenship and ensure that the process is faster and more efficient for some highly deserving new Canadians who have provided the country some invaluable services.
