Canadian and Provincial Governments Investing
One of the three Canadian Maritime Provinces – Prince Edward Island (PEI), is investing, alongside the federal government, millions to develop a PEI college.

Prince Edward Island is renowned for its scenery and lush agricultural land and had a population in 2011 of just over 140,000 people. Key economies are agriculture, tourism, and fishery.

The $2.3 million investment to Holland College will develop infrastructure and is part of Canada’s Innovation Agenda. The purpose of the Innovation Agenda is to develop the capacity of Canada for industrial growth, innovation and the creation of new jobs. One of the key spurs for innovation for the Agenda is not only to develop Canadian talent but to also to attract International talent to Canada and to keep talent in Canada once discovered.

The community college in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is known for its trades and vocational programs including Culinary Arts and Marine Training. It will receive investment to upgrade research and training space, with some focus on local industry needs. It will also improve the infrastructure, covering electrical and mechanical campus systems for long term sustainability.

The investment forms part of a plan to invest over $23 million in the province's universities and colleges in just the next three years. Funding will come from both provincial and federal government, donors and from the colleges and universities themselves. The Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development NavdeepBains described it as a “historic investment” which was a down payment on the federal government’s plan to make Canada a global centre for innovation.

Canada has extensive immigration programs available for International students and those wishing to study in Canada.
