skilled migrant workers to Canada
On August 16th this year, Chris Alexander as the Citizenship and Immigration minister for Canada officially welcomed the first migrant into the country under the new Federal Skills Trade Programme. The Programme was launched in January 2013, and was invented to facilitate the immigration of skilled workers into the country to help evolve Canada’s current and changing economic needs.

Canadian employers are crying out for skilled workers to fulfill skilled labour shortages and this programme will ensure that visa applications will be quicker and easier if the skillset matches those needed in Canada.

This is part of an overhaul of Canada’s immigration system, in order to ensure quicker visa applications, and easier immigration to Canada.  In order to attract more skilled migrant workers to Canada, the process is to be made much quicker and easier, and is based on a point system which enables applicants to receive their decisions within a matter of a few months. The first skilled migrant allowed into Canada on these rules, had their visa application finalized in just 3 months.

Skilled tradespersons are assessed by looking at their training experience, work experience, language ability and this takes precedence over formal academic education, which is a first for skilled migrant workers. So far, there have been successful visa applications from India, and parts of Europe, and the Canadian government is keen for the programme to attract immigrants from all over the world in order to help Canada’s shortage of skilled workers.

In order to obtain a visa for one of these trade positions, it is important to remember that to do so, work experience is important. If you have relevant work experience you can check most of the Canadian job sites for employment opportunities and then speak to them about whether they would be able to facilitate your entry into Canada through this programme. Most employers I Canada are crying out for skilled migrants and they will be happy to go through the process, especially now it is becoming less drawn out and easier to apply for a visa this way, so it is a distinct possibility that they will choose to employ a migrant worker, who is skilled in the industry they require, than a Canadian citizen with no relevant skills to the job.
