The Canadian government aim to clear backlogs of immigration applications and shorten the waiting time of the visa completion, this will also bring together families a lot quicker. Between the months of January and June 2013, approximately 45,000 permanent residents were accepted into Canada to set up home under the Family Class stream, by the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). The 45,000 shows a high rise of around 40% compared to the amount of immigrants accepted between January and June 2012. The volume of applications granted to applicants in the Parent and Grandparent (PGP) section doubled during the specified duration of time, it is the reason behind the high increase of admissions. Canada is renown for having one of the most considerate and reasonable programs in which families are reunited.

The increasing level of backlogs in the Parent and Grandparent category of the program, means that some applicants could face lengthy waits of up to eight years or even longer before they can be reunited with family members who permanently reside in Canada. The Canadian government have called for a halt on any new applications, along with great levels of admission, which has contributed with the reduction of the huge backlog. The program for Parents and Grandparents will allow new applications to be made from January 2nd 2014, when the program re-opens it will have a more stringent criteria which applicants must meet as well as a cap being put in place on the number of applications which can be made yearly. The recent modifications will help to continue the reductions needed to clear the backlogs. It will also enhance and amend the previous length of time families had to wait.

From December 31st 2013 applicants will be able to go online and view the amended rules and regulations surrounding the Parent and Grandparent categories, view application forms and find out the vital information about how to make an application. The altered Parent and Grandparent (super visa) program will still be a convenient and speedy available option for any parent or grandparent that have the intentions of spending a great deal of time, or a lengthy duration in the company of their family members who have permanent residency in Canada. The Super Visa is becoming one of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada's most popular visa options, with an estimated 28,000 visa being applied for and nearly 85% of them have been accepted.
