Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement has been designed as a framework for attracting, selecting and supporting skilled professionals.

A wide-ranging agreement on immigration was signed by Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, and Laura Albanese, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Ontario.

This Agreement creates a new structure for strengthening the long-standing partnership between Canada and Ontario. The purpose is to welcome and settle the immigrants, provide a boost to the economy and deal with mutual humanitarian responsibilities.

It outlines the roles and responsibilities, and immigration priorities towards selection policy, the integrity of the program, extending welcome to immigrants who speak French, and settlement of all newcomers and refugees.

Additionally, Ontario and Canada have also publicized a joint effort to assist internationally trained newcomers in meeting the requirements of the province to excel in their professions. An investment of $91 million has been planned for the Bridge-Training Programs in the next three years, of which $70 million will be contributed by Ontario and $21 million by IRCC.
