Canada started issuing work permits for potential spouses
Here’s some good news for all the spouses or common law partners of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Canada’s citizenship and Immigration has started issuing work permits to eligible spouses and common-law partners under the Spouse or Common Law Partner in Canada program.

Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration has already announced one-year pilot program to grant open work permits to potential applicants under SCLPC (the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada) class ahead of receiving approval in principle.

The promulgation of one-year pilot program was made on 22 December 2014 by CIC. The Spouse or Common Law Partner in Canada program is applicable to common law partners and spouses of Canadian nationals or permanent residents, who are already residing in Canada and looking for permanent residence within the nation.

Formerly, eligible applicants under SCLPC class would unable to get Canada open work permit till they get approval in principle for their Canada permanent residence application. As it takes nearly seventeen months for SCLPC candidates to obtain approval in principle, the capability to seek a Canada open work permit instantly specifies a major benefit for those applicants.

Sources said that candidates who have previously submitted permanent residence application under SCLPC, but have not still applied for open work permit are suggested to apply for open work permits by mail via the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, at Alberta. However, if the candidate has already obtained approval in principle, then he or she can also apply through online.

The fresh applicants under SCLPC program should complete their applications of permanent residence as well as open work permit and submit both to Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, at Ontario.

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada has started granting open work permits to qualified SCLPC applicants who had previously filed application before 22 December 2014. It is also declared that candidates who filed on or after 22 December 2014 would have their Canada open work permit applications processed in a period of four months or less of receipt.

After the period of one year, Citizenship and Immigration Canada will re-evaluate the pilot program and decide whether it must be continued.
