Canada has become a major center for Big-data firms and technology companies to hire Software Engineers and other professionals through a fast-track visa program exclusively meant for high-skilled workers. The application process is kept within ten business days by the government while it took months in the past. The reduced time taken now creates a positive aura in the eyes of the immigrants.

US President’s offensive, aimed at immigration of technological workers has resulted in adding an appeal to the initiative of new Global Skills Strategy launched by Canadian PM Trudeau. The government data reveals that 2,000 workers reached Canada, under this program, which started in June and was closed on Sept. 30. The intake was quite impressive and Indians, who earlier made up the majority of US H-1B visas, got 988 visas, China 296, and were followed by France - 92.

Ahmed Hussen, Immigration Minister of Canada, stated that it was a huge success. This program was built on the suggestion given by the business community, which had identified the future challenges, and demanded to fix them. The beneficiaries in fast-track applications are eligible to submit an application, for staying for a period of three years, and gain permanent residency. The popular categories of professionals are Software Engineers, Computer Programmers, and Systems Analysts.

President Trump has been a severe critic of the H-1B program. At present, his administration is pursuing many legislative and regulatory measures to stop the systematic abuse in the program, and many applications are being challenged. Applications seeking visas, declined during the present year, as there were concerns and issues regarding the restrictive approach for immigrants.

Innovation Drive

Experts, who had observed the talent of Canada being transferred to the USA in the past, now see a reversal of fortune. The talent from the US is moving northwards, and many companies are getting enriched owing to this. The fast-track visa program pursued by Canada aims to advance innovation and usher a modern culture. The government is financing millions of dollars of venture capital and has been constantly supporting AI initiatives. These efforts are being coordinated with the private money investors, in the tech hubs, which are located in its major cities. Canada possesses a leadership which attracts and benefits from talented professionals.
