Irish emigrating to Canada
The Canadian work visa system which is welcoming to Irish citizens, has been severely criticised by an immigration professor fro Canada. The professor feels it is wrong that Irish born people receive preferential treatment. Audrey Macklin, a professor in law with distinctive interest in the immigration process at the University Of Toronto, told a reporter for the Irish Times that “the Canadian government should not be giving  special treatment to Ireland”. He has no opinion one way or another regarding Irish people travelling to Canada, but stated if there are a lot of Irish people who are qualified and looking to come to Canada and Canada is in need of these people, then it would make more sense to increase the quota on admissions for all economic immigrants and allow the Irish to make applications through that.

Ireland's International Experience Canada (IEC) have doubled in two years from 5,000 to 10,000. Jason Kenney, Canada's immigration minister, visited Ireland in 2012 where it was made clear that the country desired Irish emigrants who were skilled in specific areas. The links between the two countries are increasing and Aer Lingus have announced a year round direct route which will travel from Toronto to Dublin, Westjet will be flying from Newfoundland to Dublin.

The President of Youth Employment Services, Nancy Schaefer, believes the government of Canada should be putting investments into Canadians before others. But a member of the Canadian Emigration Centre in Toronto, Cathy Murphy, feels that Canada is in need of skilled help immediately and this is the problem that needs focusing on, she told The Times “Canada is starting to train young people in trades, but the problem is the skilled, ready workforce is needed now”.

Canada is very welcoming to immigrants as a society, for individuals who have a genuine intention of beginning or enhancing their careers, they may have more luck in St John's, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg or Regina. Toronto and Vancouver, which are high migrant capitals, have less positions available but a large number applying for vacancies.

Throughout march, Ireland will be holding two Canadian work fairs, one of which is to be held in Dublin and the other will be held in cork. Director of the Working Abroad Expo (WAE) Stephen McLarnon, stated that opportunities are endless as long as you are willing and able to work and can work anywhere.
