Canada Visa

The Canadian government is scrutinizing the immigration process and replacing certain aspects of it in order to improve the way it works. The aim of the overhaul is to reduce the backlogs, improve current programs and bring in new programs. Some people who disagree with a number of the changes, believe many of them focus too much around jobs and are somewhat tactless, however the conservatives believe it to be a “legacy of the government”. Canada's immigration minister stated that by the next election, he hopes to discussing a much more modern system. The most popular visas available at present are the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, Refugees, Expression Of Interest, Canadian Experience Class and  Provincial Nominees.

Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW)- This entitles employers to bring in workers on a temporary basis, providing they are unable to fill the vacancy with someone in Canada, successful candidates will have a cap enforced which will stipulate the duration of their stay.

Unfortunately the popularity of this program is thought to be down to the number of companies who choose to abuse the process. Changes to this program were introduced during 2013 and more changes are expected over the next few months.

Refugees – Towards the end of of 2012, changes were brought in by the Canadian government which were aimed at reducing false cases. In 2013, the was a noticeable decrease in the time an applicant had to wait, Canada also saw an “historic low” on the number of claimants who were seeking refuge.

Expression Of Interest (EOI) – The EOI is a relativity new program which is expected to peek more during 2015, the program will ease complications which can be faced during the migration process. EOI allows individuals to be selected by possible employers for suitable vacancies, a successful candidate can expect the process to then take no longer than six months.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)- The CEC has been formulated to cater for workers or students who have previously lived in Canada. The program was brought in during 2008 and it is the most actively applied for.

Provincial Nominees – the provinces are allocated a specific number of people who the can nominate to receive permanent residency. During 2014 there are expected to be around 45,000 new nominees. The Canadian provinces have been asking for a larger number of people to nominate but it is not likely that they will get the increase they want.
