125th Express Entry Draw
On Sep 4th Canada held an Express Entry draw resulting in issuing of 3,600 ITAs to candidates. The Comprehensive Ranking System score threshold was at 463. In the draw held on August 20, the CRS score threshold was 457 points. The increase in this draws is owing to the fact that two weeks passed between these draws. There was a tie-breaking mechanism applied in the draw, and all candidates with a score of 463 points received the ITA in case they had submitted their profile to Express Entry pool before the deadline of Aug 23, 2019 at 13:33:34 UTC.

Reason for the Increase of CRS Cut-Off Threshold

The time that has passed between two draws is the reason for the increase of six points. The Normal duration for IRCC is two weeks between two draws. The extra time allowed the entry of new candidates to the pool impacting the threshold. IRCC has issued 3,600 ITAs for this as well as the past draws. This is a large number resulting in a decrease of the CRS score.

In case IRCC conducts fortnight draws and maintains issuing of high number of ITAs in each draw, there is a possibility that the CRS threshold will continue to drop in the future.

The factors influencing the CRS cut-off score are The number of candidates invited; The draw frequency; The strength of new candidates that enter the pool; and Changes of circumstances (increase or decrease) of existing candidates.

There is a possibility of the future draws resulting in candidates having a score below 450 points receiving an invitation. In January this year, IRCC invited candidates with a score in the range of 430. Additionally, Canada has a determined target of admitting additional immigrants through Express Entry programs in 2019 and also for the next two years.

Last year the Canadian government revealed an updated Immigration Level Plan for 2019-2021.
