Canada Begins Biometrics Collection from Immigrants in the Country
Canada Immigration has increased its biometrics collection program to incorporate immigration applicants who are submitting applications from within Canada.

From 3 December 2019, immigrant nationals from inside Canada who are applying for temporary residence or permanent residence, or for extension or renew a visitor visa, study permit or work permit will have to give fingerprints and also a photograph.

They can submit biometrics at any one of the 58 authorized Service locations in Canada.

Bio-metric Collection Improves Integrity of the Immigration System

Fingerprints & photo collection are identified as one of the most secure ways to recognize people and are practiced by greater than 70 nations worldwide, announced by the new Canadian Immigration Minister named Marco Mendicino. We will improve the capability and integrity of the Canadian immigration system.

Canada Immigration Department has collected biometrics from many international citizens who are applying for temporary residence or permanent residence since 31 December 2018.

An Refugees, Immigration, and Citizenship Canada statement announced that Having biometrics supports immigration officers to check people’s identification, which offers to process applications more accessible and simplifies the entry for certain travelers.

It also makes it more comfortable for officials to stop people who pose a danger to the security and safety of Canadians.

Applicants still need to submit their applications in the normal way, either online mode or offline mode.

Those who required to provide biometrics need to receive a biometric instruction letter. Then they need to make an appointment at one of the designated Service points in Canada.

The following applicants are excluded from the biometrics condition:

  • Those who are below 14 years or above 79 years of age.
  • US citizens coming to visit, study or work or temporary stay in Canada.
  • Lawful US permanent residents who are coming for the purpose of visit only.

Applicants can provide their biometrics at any one of the listed Visa Application Centers (V.A.C) in any nation that they are lawfully permitted to enter. Canada has a total of 160 Visa Application Centers in 108 nations.
