Canada: 83% of Women between 25-54 Years are Participating in Labor Market
Just above 83% of women in Canada within the ages of 25 to 54 years were working or looking for work in the last year 2018, as per the latest update from Statistics Canada to recognize International Women’s Day on Mar 8.

The 2018 rate of participation stands in stark difference to 1950 when just above 21% of Canadian women in this specific age group participated in the labor market of Canada. By the year 1991, this rate had increased to 75.9%.

The growth in women’s participation matched with economic and Socio-demographic modifications, such as enhanced participation in higher education levels, late marriage, and childbearing, and grown separation and divorce, said by Statistics Canada.

At the Canadian provincial level, the quickest growth rate in the women’s participation in Canada labor market within 2008 and 2018 was recorded in Newfoundland and Labrador, where the growth rate increased by 5% points to 81.6% in the preceding year 2018.

The labor market participation rate during these 10 years was the second biggest in the Quebec province, where it increased by 3.9% points to 86.7%.

The rate of participation for immigrant women between 25-54 Years increased 2.3% points within 2008 and 2018 to 77.7%.

Statistics Canada Data
