British Irish Visa Scheme to Benefit Indian Tourists
With the start of British Irish Visa Scheme from today, Indians will be able to travel to Ireland and UK on a single visit visa on the same tour, a press release from the British High Commission unveiled.

In a major decision taken to ease and attract Indian travelers, the British and Irish governments have outlined British Irish Visa Scheme that allows Indians to apply for a Irish or UK visit visa.

The scheme was officially announced by the Irish Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald and British Home Secretary Theresa May in October and is now open to nationals of India and China.

British High Commissioner to India Sir James Bevan stated that the move is an instance of the constant improvements they are making to the visa service for citizens of India, as the country is a major growth market for UK and Irish tourism. They expect that this scheme will draw more Indian travelers to Ireland and UK.

The Ambassador of Ireland to India, Feilim McLaughlin stated that he is very happy with the introduction of the new British-Irish Visa Scheme and welcomes the advantages that the scheme will bring to Irish-Indian tourism and trade links.

Further, he added that the India is a major market for Ireland under the Government’s Tourism, Trade, and Investment Strategy. The Embassy in New Delhi and the state agencies in India will work collaboratively to enhance the investment, education, trade and tourism between the two nations. He anticipates the scheme will strengthen the ties between Ireland and India in the future.

The release also said that as part of the scheme, Ireland will share the 12 visa application center of UK throughout India and all applicants wishing to apply for any UK or Irish visa will need to use the shared Visa Application Centers to lodge an applications and need to give their biometrics.

Apparently, individuals who are using the scheme will need to come and travel to the nation which granted their visa first prior travelling to the other nation. Nevertheless travelers transiting through the UK to Ireland will not need a separate transit visa, the release mentioned.
