British Columbia Invites Graduates and Workers to Immigrate to Canada
After numerous recent draws for British Columbia, and for Canada as a whole, seeing increases to the number of candidates invited to apply for permanent residency the latest BC draw results are out.  The threshold of points required to qualify has also decreased in recent months making more candidates able to progress to permanent residency. The first draw for April, drawn April 5, 2017, issued 458 Invitations to Apply (ITA’s) to graduates and workers wanting to immigrate to Canada under the BC PNP (British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program).

This recent draw is the largest yet under the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) and the Express Entry BC schemes. The SIRS system requires registration under one only of five subcategories. Candidates are awarded points across their eligibility criteria and when the draws take place the highest-ranking candidates above the set points threshold, and in line with the number of candidates required, are issued an ITA for BC PNP. Although aligned with federal Express Entry the Express Entry BC system is different. An ITA for BC PNP is an invitation to apply for BC provincial nomination. A successful provincial nomination will award an applicant 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points towards federal Express Entry. These additional points will pretty much guarantee an invitation to apply for permanent residency in the next federal express entry draw.

The Skills Immigration program for BC, or SIRS, is a method for those with the skills experience and qualifications needed by BC employers to apply for permanent residency in the province, and in turn, Canada. There are five categories under the SIRS stream these are the:

  • Skilled Worker Category
  • Health Care Professional Category
  • International Graduate Category
  • International Post-Graduate Category
  • Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Category

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for the SIRS category they are applying for and the general requirements for the BC Skills Immigration Program. They also must be eligible to immigrate to Canada under the federal Express Entry schemes as well as the BC Express Entry schemes.

The April 5 draw for BC PNP saw the 458 candidates invited across a mix of the Express Entry BC, Express Entry BC International Graduate, Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate and Skills Immigration Entry Level and Semi-Skilled schemes. The most ITA’s , 166, were issued to the Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker category.
