Britain Likely to Review Immigration Policy for Indian Students

UK immigration Policy for Indian students
In a major decision taken to increase the arrival of Indian students, the British high command is reportedly relaxing the stringent visa policy.

It has to be mentioned here that a large number of Indian students flock to United Kingdom every year in search of quality education. However, tens of thousands are reportedly being turned down their visas on a daily basis given the stringent visa rules that have been in place for quite some time.

If we have to go by the buzz, the Deputy Prime Minister of Britain, Nick Clegg reportedly said that the government will look into UK immigration policy provided the reservation of Indian students is genuine. In an exclusive interview to a leading news paper in India, Clegg said-during his visit to India-will congregate with Indian students to know about their reservations and will review the policy to make any further amendments if required.

Notably, UK has observed a 25% drop in the enrollment of Indian students in their universities. According to the recent migration statistics, the number of students from India declined from 17,271 to 13,608 in a year as majority of Indian students are considering Australia, Germany and Canada over UK for studies.

Since 2007, 84% of the UK student visa application from India gained a positive response despite the fact that 90% of Indian applications on a whole were granted a visa, Clegg added.

On the other hand, they are encouraging students to work after they complete their graduation by allowing them to work as long as they earn a minimum graduate salary. Students who earn over the minimum salary can work for a maximum period of three years after completing their graduation along with the option of working for more three years. In fact, this is significantly longer than the former postgraduate work route, stressed Clegg.

It is expected that one in every three students enrolled for higher studies will be from India and China by 2024. Indian students will form the second largest group in the pie with 3.76 lakh students heading towards enrollment in foreign universities, opined experts.

Let us keep our fingers crossed to know if the new proposed rule would actually come in as a boom to Indian students who eye at UK universities.
