Australia-will-Change-Training-Norms-in-English
A new norm has been introduced and all International students will be tested for their proficiency in English from 2018.

Simon Birmingham, Education Minister will make it public in an Education Conference in Hobart about the introduction of these norms in the English language for students.

Intensive Courses for the English Language will be held for Overseas Students and they will be assessed in the direct entry to a tertiary course. Presently, the students can get ahead in the course without submitting a proof and commence their university studies.

Senator Birmingham said that the government was unaware of the exact number of 150,000 ELICOS students who were not suitable, although many achieved first-rate outcomes. There have been a few incidents, when some of the students, were not able to participate in group work or had struggled in the class work given to them.

Having the English language skills was essential for the international students, as well as for the domestic students, to succeed. This will be the first instance, where the standards will also be extended, to vocational education and training courses, besides the universities.

The ELICOS courses will have 20 in-person contact hours in a week and a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:18.

More than 60,000 Students, who studied the English-language courses in the country in 2016, proceeded to study further and pursued higher education and vocational courses.

These changes will reinforce the reputation of the country as a top quality destination to pursue international education. It was at present worth $28 billion a year.

These standards would make it easier for TEQSA, the higher education regulator, to remove providers, who are at fault he concluded.
