Presently, the UK and the US are closing their doors for Indian students. They are using an anti-immigrant language and are implementing strict rules, which make the stay difficult after their studies are completed. Hence Indian students are opting to seek admission to Australian universities and colleges.

Indian students are studying in large numbers in Australia, and the trend has increased to a record high, as per the data revealed by the Australian High Commission, located in New Delhi.

Australian universities like James Cook, Bond, Deakin, Queensland, New South Wales, and Canberra had a plentiful 2017, with increased Indian applicants. Indian students had previously focussed on the states of Victoria, and NSW but now prefer destinations like Melbourne and Queensland also.

In November 2017, there were 68,000 Indian students pursuing their studies in Australia, which was an increase of 14.65% over the same period in January-November 2016. In 2016, Australia received 60,013 students from India, which saw an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. The boost in numbers is also attributed to the warm welcome received by them in Australia.

The US witnessed less number of Indians pursuing studies. Applications for International graduates and enrolment for fresh graduates, of Indian origin, in US institutions, decreased by 15% and 13%, in the year-end of 2017.

The UK saw an increase of 27%, to 14,081, in the long-term category of study visas, given to Indian students, as on November 30, 2017. It is very low when compared to 60,000 of September 2010.
