Australia Introduces Simpler Visa Norms for Indian Students
Australia is now accepting additional applications from the Indian students when compared to the previous year, for the September quarter of 2013. There has been a rise in the applications from 1,987 to 4,200.  This is due to the reason that the visa norms have been made simpler and the fascination for UK as a destination for pursuing studies has diminished.

Senior Migration Officer and Second Secretary of the Australian High Commission (immigration) Jennie Mitchell, said that the visa structure of Australia has been made easy and simple compared to the previous year. This is with the intention of rendering help to the students  and the business people to have easy access to enter the country. At the Australian business summit held, she said that the incidents of the supposed racist attacks on the Indian people have lessened greatly, and so according to her, this has greatly increased the chances of and viability of students in India to study in Australia.

For the business visitors, two new categories have been introduced. The first one, which is not considered as a work visa is applicable to the visitors who have a plan for a short-term business visit. For example, this would constitute of negotiations, seminars, conferences and so on. The second one would be called the ‘Short Stay’ visa, which grants six weeks of stay for particular projects.  Due to these new categories being introduced, the country’s visa sub-classes have come down to 5 from the previous 11.

Ms. Mitchell said that on the whole, about 6,700 Indian applications of visa are processed every day. Additionally, she stated that it takes two weeks duration, on an average, to process an application through the desks of the High Commission.
