Are the rules too strict?

There is currently much talk about reforming the Immigration laws in America today, the focus being they are far too strict and that if the laws of today were applied before the 1960's America simply would not be the country that it is now, as the majority who applied would not have got in. America is built on the backs of migrant workers, the Statue Of Liberty - America's most famous icon - was built by the hands of Irish and Polish immigrants for example who in those days would have simply boarded a ship and come to build a new life for themselves and their families here in the ‘Land Of Opportunity’.

Nobody is suggesting that the immigration laws should be as lapse as they were but that there should be a happy medium where those who can contribute to America's economy especially are granted a much smoother application process than they currently are. There are huge benefits of immigration worth noting, perhaps most importantly high skilled immigrants, which is likely to benefit all Americans. To gain permanent residency into the United States of America there are many things that will be considered, and in today’s procedures it will not be made easy for you. The first thing is your green card will have had to have been in place for a period of 5 years before your application will even be considered so nothing is going to happen instantaneously.

There is also an American Government and History test to undergo and your score will be a contributing factor in the decision of whether your application is approved or denied. You must prove that you have the ability to read, write and speak good English and this will be tested with a written and oral exam. You must also have no criminal record. The majority of today’s immigration laws can appear very intimidating and maybe even off putting to some which will result in a dent in the US economy if migrants opt for different destinations where the process is much more straightforward. You must be 100% honest throughout your visa application process, anything you omit to mention i.e minor mishap/mistake in your eyes leading to an arrest for example, will already be known to the U.S government.

All the above can sound very daunting but there are many organisations there to help you each step of the way, the most popular is the USCIS, and keep in your mind the fact that over 90% of applicants WILL be granted citizenship.
