After Easing Rules, UK Gives Flexibility to Students for Work Visas

A new set of immigration regulations will be initiated from January 11, 2018 and foreign citizens, studying in the UK, will soon benefit from further flexibility in changing over to work visas. Foreign students will be in a position to obtain Tier-2 visas the moment they finish their academics. The present norms required them, to wait till they obtained a degree, to apply to get the Tier-2 visa.

The present position gave students little time, to locate a job when they still remained, in the country. Students who opted for higher education needed waiting for the marking of their thesis, or awarding of a degree, after their course was completed, prior to applying for work visas.

This new rule will help them in applying for Tier-2 visas a couple of months sooner than before.

Sadiq Khan the mayor of London has supports fresh categorisation of study work visas. A paper entitled Immigration, a future approach, by him draws the attention towards decreasing number of international students.

He suggests that the new work visa should be dissimilar from the Tier-2 visa and must enable students to take up some work in the country for 12/24 months after they complete the graduation course.

This Relief is the direct result of a prolonged dialogue held between the UK government and universities.  The student visas were given for the length of the course, and a few more months, but they obstructed the foreign students to seek employment in the country. When such students could not find employment in the specified period, they were required to go back to their domicile country.

Presently, many students holding Tier-4 visas are not in a position to switch over to Tier-2 visas for the reason of not obtaining their degree and the student visas are scheduled to expire.

There is a need for the Indian students to observe the effect of Brexit on working culture for foreign students. The competition for jobs from EU workers will be relieved after Brexit, and give them an edge in the UK.
