Canadian Employers are finding it difficult to fill jobs in Alberta, which reflects on economic recovery in the province, as per the statement of Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

Presently in 2017, there were 33,900 positions, remaining unfilled in Alberta.

CFIB said that this figure is equivalent to a 2.2 percent rate of vacancy showing unfilled jobs related to entire jobs available in the private sector.  In the second quarter of the year, there were 28,500 remaining unfilled and the vacancy rate was 1.8 percent.

Skilled workers not present in Alberta

Jason Gillespie, owner of Pathfinder Recruitment Group in the construction sector says that Construction companies face a hard time to find the skilled workers needed.  They left the province at the time of recession hit and are disinclined to return. Many people do not want to take risks now, owing to the risky nature in Alberta.

There is a great demand for skilled professionals in comptrollers, architectural technicians, accountants, interior designers, and cost estimators.

CFIB conducts a poll in every quarter to discover the number of jobs remaining unfilled for four months. CFIB Economist, Ted Mallett, stated that these figures indicate that business is picking up in Alberta But there is a long journey ahead before it assumes the position that existed in 2014.

As per CFIB, countrywide the shortage of skilled workers has formed a total of 361,700 jobs which is a record high in the unfilled private sector job segment in Canada.

British Columbia had the highest job vacancy figures with 60,000 jobs unfilled. Ontario had 149,000 vacant jobs. Mallet says considering the country as a whole, the sectors of construction, retail, and hospitality experienced severe labor shortage.
