In the first draw, held on January 10, 2018, Canada has extended the invitation to 2,750 Express Entry candidates, for applying to obtain permanent residence in the country. The cut-off CRS score in it was 446. It happens to be the same cut-off score as was observed, in the previous draw held on December 20, 2017.

In this draw, IRCC followed the tie-break rule again. The timing of tie-break was at 6:30:42 UTC on November 18th, 2017.

This was the first draw, for the Express Entry system of Canada, of an expected busy first half of the year 2018. In 2017, 16 draws were held, and CRS cut-off scores ranged from 468 as the highest to 413 as the lowest during the year.

Canada has proposed huge Express Entry targets for 2018 and has also enlarged the targets in the Provincial Nominee Programs and Family Class. 2018 will be an extremely busy year for immigration in Canada. The three economic immigration categories in Express Entry have an increased target admission of 3,200, above the figures of 2017, when many Express Entry records were set.

In 2017, 30 draws were held, and the Invitations to apply issued, touched 86,023, which is a record total. It represented 56 percent of the 153,618 ITAs that were issued, since Jan 2015, when the system of Express Entry, was introduced in Canada.

IRCC has set very high targets, for issuing ITA in 2018. This is likely, to lead to large and frequent draws, from the EE pool. It is expected that the cut-off CRS scores, could be low, in the future.

A score of 8 in each category of the IELTS, work or study in Canada, better language proficiency, having a relative who is a PR in a Canadian province and better academic degrees are sufficient factors, to help in obtaining an ITA, in the present draw.

2017 started with a CRS cut-off score of 468, and during the year, scores declined to 413, which was a record low. 2018 is commencing with 22 points, below the first draw score of 2017. This indicates far more low CRS score in 2018.
