As with moving to any new country that is different from a country of origin there will be a lot of stark differences, not just in food, but weather, culture, religion. Any individual wanting to move to Hong Kong for a long period of time or forever should first experience Hong Kong life and research the areas of life there and how different it may be to the one that they are used to. Once in Hong Kong is is important to know that some dos and don’t will apply especially from a safety aspect. The best thing to do when in any country is to enjoy the experience and sample the life but always being aware, think first. It is easy to get caught up in the new and the colourful, enjoy but with caution. When uprooting to Hong Kong one of the main differences is the language, learning to speak Cantonese will get you further in Hong Kong than if you do not, it will help you to understand and also be understood. Small phrases like where is the toilet can be helpful. The cuisine of Hong Kong is different to anything you would have experienced before, no amount of Chinese take aways will prepare you, if you do make sure what you are eating is absolutely what you think it is it probably is not.
