Live and Work in Hong Kong

Live and work in Hong Kong

Making the move to live and work in Hong Kong may be the best decision you ever made, but there will be many different things to organize before you finally arrive.

One of the most important things to consider when you decide to live and work in Hong Kong is where you will live, both in terms of the region you pick and the type of accommodation you choose.

How is life in Hong Kong ?

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places on the planet so if you are craving a bit of peace and solitude, it's probably not the place for you. However, even taking the number of residents into account, there are still busy and relatively quieter regions so you need to consider what your priorities are before starting your search on where to live and work in Hong Kong.

If you are looking for a central location to live and work in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Island is where you want to be. But even within this hot spot, there are still places with their own distinctive characteristics.

The beating heart of Hong Kong can be found in the Central and Lower Mid-Levels; the pace of life here is fast and it offers everything you could expect from a vibrant and dynamic cosmopolitan city. You won't ever be short of anything to do, and whatever you need will be at your fingertips. As you might expect though, there is a premium to pay if you choose to live in this quarter. Many people live in bijou one bed roomed flats and still have to fork out eye wateringly expensive monthly payments.

There's no escaping that Hong Kong accommodation is expensive, even when compared to western places such as Paris, London and New York. But the central regions are markedly more so than some of the other areas which surround them.

Admiralty and Wan Chai are just one or two tram stops away from central Hong Kong Island, but offer accommodation which is significantly cheaper and comfortable to live and work in Hong Kong. For many people, this offers a great compromise because all the amenities are easily accessible and the area itself is a wonderful fusion of eastern and western architecture.

Moving slightly further afield, Kowloon is an up and coming area that offers spectacular views over Hong Kong Island as well as its own excellent shopping.

If you have more flexibility around where you want to live and work in Hong Kong you might want to consider either Discovery Bay or the New Territories. These outlying islands surround Kowloon and Hong Kong Island and provide access to more open spaces available in central areas in addition to luxury condominium accommodation.
