Migrate to Denmark

Migrate to Denmark

If you have been fortunate enough to enjoy some time in Denmark, you may decide that you want to make a move on a more permanent basis.

How to migrate to Denmark?

However, in order to migrate to Denmark permanently, there are a number of requirements which you must fulfill in order to gain approval.

Any individual wanting to migrate to Denmark and get a permanent residency card must be willing to sign the document known as the 'Declaration on integration and active citizenship in Danish Society'. You will not be provided with permission to migrate to Denmark if you are not willing to sign this.

Immigration to Denmark :

The document starts off with a general promise which requires that anyone who wants to migrate to Denmark will become 'active citizens' and integrate fully into society. This declaration applies to the applicant, their spouse, their children and anyone else who is intending to migrate to Denmark.

As well as setting out some of the key principles – such as abiding by Danish legislation – the declaration also seeks to provide anyone who wants to migrate to Denmark with some useful information too.

For example, the applicant is required to confirmation their understanding that the Danish language is an integral part of society and that they will do their best to learn it as soon as possible. However, the declaration also informs the person that in some cases Danish classes may be available from the district council.

This declaration also seeks to address any cultural differences that may be present, particularly for individuals who have decided to migrate to Denmark from outside the EU. For example, it clearly states that female circumcision and forced arranged marriages are illegal and that both men and women hold the same rights and responsibilities.

The treatment of children and their educational needs are also specifically included in the declaration. Not only must they be treated with respect and allowed 'self-expression' but they must be provided with the 'best possible' schooling; this should include learning the Danish language as soon as possible. Parents are also encouraged to ensure their children complete their homework throughout their school years and must undertake to 'actively collaborate' with either the school or educational facility.

As an overall guide, the declaration is intended to set out the core beliefs and spirit of Denmark, which promote freedom of expression, equality, integrity and active participation in society as a whole.
