Denmark PR

Denmark PR

If you require a visa to enter Denmark, there are a number of routes that you may be able to secure a temporary permit.

However, gaining a Denmark permanent residency – also known as Denmark pr – can be significantly more difficult as there are a number of criteria which must be fulfilled in order for your application to be considered.

Denmark pr eligibility:

To start with, you must still be an eligible resident under the rules of temporary residency before you apply for a (Denmark permanent residency) Danish pr. If you no longer tick all the necessary boxes for a temporary visa, you will not qualify for Denmark pr either.

Denmark pr requirements:

However, it isn't just the criteria for temporary residency that must be fulfilled in order to switch to Denmark pr, there are also a number of additional requirements.

Some of the boxes which must be ticked for Denmark permanent residency are relatively well-known, such as having lived in the country for at least five years. But there are some which are a little less obvious but yet are just as vital in qualifying for Denmark pr.

One of these conditions is the rule which states that an individual must not have any overdue public debts. If any arrears have accrued, Denmark permanent residency will be automatically refused on these grounds.

It's important to understand exactly what is meant by 'public debts'. This is not the same as falling behind with a personal credit card or loan; this type of borrowing will have no impact on whether a visa application for Denmark pr is accepted or refused.

As a guide, the following types of debt are considered public, and as such could halt an application for Denmark pr:

Overpaid housing benefits of Denmark permanent residency:
  • Housing loan
  • Childcare fees
  • Taxes and levies
  • Child support being paid to an ex-partner
  • Social Service Act or Active Social Policy Act which have been overpaid and that you are required by law to pay back

You may have made an agreement with either the state or the municipality to pay back any public debts in instalments rather than as a lump sum. Whilst this agreement may mean no action is being taken against you to reclaim the debt, you will not be able to apply for Denmark pr until you have paid everything back that you owe.

Making an application for Denmark permanent residency means you will be asked to swear that you do not have any of the above types of debt. Do not think that you can be dishonest on the declaration; further verification checks will be carried out too. However, being untruthful on any kind of visa application may have further implications such as being refused to allow renewing your permit even for a temporary stay.
