Toronto - Canada – A Indepth Focus

The largest city in Canada and some would say it's heart, Toronto is a bright jewel with a strong economy, a tolerant, multi-national community and excellent public services. There's no wonder it's regularly voted the best place to live in Canada.

Available jobs, excellent wages and a great lifestyle makes migration to Canada very appealing. Toronto is a popular destination with Indians from all over our country. In fact, almost half a million Indians already live in the Greater Toronto Area so wherever you're from, you're sure to be able to find compatriots from back home.

Toronto's population

Toronto is home to 2.6 million people. Approximately half of those people were born outside the country, migrating to Canada as a child or an adult. The city is home to people from almost every country in the world, including approximately 500,000 Indians, in several thriving communities. Most of Canada has a low population density, and wild, empty spaces are easy to find outside the city. Toronto has a relatively low population density, with many families living in large, sprawling houses in the pretty suburbs at the city's edge.

A vibrant city

Sometimes overshadowed by American cities like New York and Washington, Toronto is a bustling and busy city with its own cultural and sporting greats. The city is a major financial centre, with the Toronto Stock Exchange being the 7th largest in the world. Innovative businesses are constantly springing up, and the city is home to both the latest hip thing and mature, reliable companies.

Skilled immigration to Canada

Toronto is in Ontario, one of Canada's 6 provinces. Ontario is encouraging skilled immigration. 29% of Ontario's workforce are immigrants, and the province recognises the need for an ongoing influx of new workers to strengthen their economy. Canada immigration points are awarded for workers with particular skills who are willing to settle in the province.

The frozen north

Canada is famous for its cold winters, and Toronto does regularly experience cold snaps where the day's highest temperature is -10C. Snowstorms are common in the winter, and snowfall is frequent enough that the city tends to soldier on with only minor disruptions to daily life. Children love playing in the snow, and sledding is popular. Summers are warm and humid with temperatures typically between 21-31C, sometimes higher. As Toronto is on the shores of Lake Ontario, water sports and swimming are popular in warmer weather.

High standard of living

Toronto is a popular destination for those wanting to immigrate to Canada as it regularly features of lists of the 10 best places to live in the world. Both healthcare and education are free in Canada, making it a great choice for families. As the cultural and sporting capital of Canada, Toronto is home to many fine museums, excellent sports teams and a plethora of cultural events. The city bustles, bright and cheerful, combining the safety and cleanliness of a smaller town with the services, jobs and facilities of a world-class city.
