Canadian IT firms interested in hiring skilled immigrants

As vacancies in Canada are becoming harder and harder to fill with available IT graduates, finding qualified IT personnel within the borders of Canada is more and more difficult. Local IT companies in Canada, such as Keane Canada, are searching outside of the country to fulfill their growing needs in the employment sector.

Keane Canada currently has on their books 500 people in Halifax, Canada, and is searching for more qualified IT workers to fill vacancies in Toronto and other sites, as their currently expanding business is suffering with a shortage of IT graduates.

Canadian hiring skilled immigrants
"We do a fair bit of recruiting from Ontario and across Canada" states Pam Johnson, who works for Keane as a Senior Director within the HR section of the firm. Keane supplies computer software development and maintenance support services to its customers, some of which include Fortune 100 businesses in America. She explains that about 50 percent of her employees originate from countries such as India or China, with the rest being recruited from all over China. They like many employers in China recruit through Workopolis, and other web based job-sites.

With the IT courses at Canadian universities only seeing a  percent take up compared to previous years, it seems the problem is not going to be fixed from within any time soon, and Canadian Universities seems to be crying out for students, international or not, to sign up to their IT courses.
This is according to a report by the Information and Communications Technology Council in Canada. According to the same report, approximately 90,000 new jobs expect to be created and will need filling in the IT Industry in the next 3 years.

Keane Canada has admitted that they plan to employ up to 375 new employees for its Halifax operation in the next half decade.

Ms Johnson alleges that Keane Canada will more than likely struggle to find the skilled workers it needs within Canada, and she realises that they will be looking at employing from overseas again.  She said that she thinks more should be done in Nova Scotia, in order to offer a support network in order to invite and make comfortable the skilled immigrant workers, when most are tempted to move to the larger more central cities such as Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto.

Keane Canada is one of Canada's top 20 businesses for employing new immigrants, and they work very closely with local immigration government agencies such as MISA and they are well known for helping new Canadian citizens to settle in, providing language tutoring and other settlement services.
