Canada's Medical Examination for Entry

Canadas Medical Examination for Entry

When an individual or a family chooses to migrate to the provinces or territories that make up Canada, it is a necessity for some applicants to initial obtain a suitable visa. There are several variations of visa available, each one is formulated to meet different needs of an applicant. Before a final decision is concluded, on whether or not the application has been successful and a visa be granted, it is usually required for the applicant to undergo a medical examination.

The medical examination is to determine the level and standards of the applicants health and ensure nothing that could pose a health risk to Canadian residents is going to be transferred. It is also there to ensure the applicant will not be reliant on the Canadian health care which could then cause the financial economy to be affected. If an application is made to become a permanent resident, the applicant is compelled to undergo a medical examination, any person or persons who will be accompanying the applicant on their venture, are required to take a medical examination for the same purpose as the applicant.

The registered doctor of the applicant and accompanying individuals is not eligible to conduct the medical examination, it must be conducted by a doctor who is specified on the the list of “panel physicians”. A complete and extensive examination will be carried out by one of the panel physicians, the applicant may then have to have laboratory testing and a chest x-ray, if the panel physician makes a referral. On completion of the applicants examination results from the panel physician will be sent on to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) when an applicant attends the appointment they are required to take suitable identification, the identification must clearly display the applicants signature and photograph. Contact lenses or glasses, if the applicant requires the use of them, must be taken along. It is also required that previous medical records are provided concerning medical conditions.

It is imperative that the applicant provides the medical report form IMM1017E. The conclusive decision based on the applicants medical examination, is not made by the panel physician, the decision is made by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). For any issues which may arise from the results of the medical examination, the applicant will be contacted by the visa office to try and rectify the issues. Contact will be made in writing.
