There several countries competing to attract highly skilled immigrants from across the world among which Canada got succeeded so far to do so. The World Bank published a new research in which Canada is one of the top four countries in the world to attract highly skilled immigrants whereas with the choice of 40% of highly skilled foreign nationals the US tops the list.
After observing migration patterns of past 50 years that include the number of people departing from, arriving to and also moving around the world, the researchers Christopher Parsons, Sari Pekkala Kerr, Caglar Ozden and William Kerr authored the World Bank published research.
Top Four Destinations of Highly Skilled Immigrants
The research identifies the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia as the top four destinations of highly skilled immigrants from across the world. It also found that the worldwide migration has remained stable over the past 50 years.
In fact, approximately 3% of people across the world are living in a foreign country (a country other than they were born) which is almost similar to the case in 1960. Though, this will not guarantee the steady and unchanged immigration trends in future.
According to the World Bank report, even the though number of people leaving specific parts of the world as refugees increased recently but, a significant number of people with above-average income levels and having a good education are willingly moving because of economic reasons.
A research paper quotes that the people are migrating from the broader range of countries to the narrower range of countries, particularly to Australia, Canada, the US and the United Kingdom.
Canada has started the
Express Entry System to attract a maximum number of highly skilled immigrants from across the world. Recently, Canada introduced a new express entry system by giving importance to human capital, experience and skills to attract skilled immigrants under these categories. To improve their position in the list of countries attracting skilled immigrants, Canada is going to issue more Invitations to Apply (ITA) through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in 2017.
