First deal on immigration issues signed by MSAR and Australia

At the MSAR Immigration Department Building Macau SAR and Australia signed the first Memorandum of Understanding on immigration cooperation between the 2 countries. This will be coming to effect from next week, and will facilitate greater exchange between respective immigration and authorities of border control. Capacity building and providing training is the main aim of the memorandum said the Consul-General, so that both the immigration agencies can understand each others process. The framework will be developed further through this memorandum and both the countries are showing a very strong desire to cooperate on immigration matters.

visaThe Council-General announces that senior Macau immigration officers will be given technical expertise by Australia so that they can tackle visa and passport frauds. The way Macau handles its large number of visitors can teach Australia a lot too. On behalf of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection Australia and the Department of Immigration of MacauSAR, the arrangement was sealed at the signing ceremony Macau's Public Security Police Force (PSP) Commissioner Lei Siu and Mr Paul Tighe, Australian Consul-General to Hong Kong.

Lei said that it was very crucial to enhance the capability on monitoring Macau's border checkpoints ad also create a quality of immigration personnel when he was discussing about the increase of visitors in Macau and the different challenges they face. Australia and MacauSAR government will be cooperating with each other in the immigration area, training and share experiences with each other as is also marked by the memorandum. Lei said that he wants to enhance the level of police officers they have and meet international standards and make Macau a safe place for visitors and also provide them with better services. Lei also said that if they get an opportunity they will sign similar agreements with other countries in the future.
